Course Title: Understanding Personality Disorder and working with people living with the label or life experiences associated with Personality Disorder
Course Aims:
- To enable learners to fully understand how Personality Disorder and associated diagnosis are used and defined by medics
- To empower the learners to understand the experiences people may have had to exhibit the behaviour or experience the symptom that lead to a diagnosis
- To understand trauma, peer support and recovery models in this context
- To explore ways to develop skills for walking alongside people with the diagnosis or similar experiences
Course Overview: Personality Disorder (and associated labels) are a set of labels used by clinicians to characterise a range of behaviours or symptoms. They are often contested or misunderstood terms. Taking a person centred and rights-based approach these diagnoses will be explored in the context of trauma, and other factors that influence people being diagnosed with Personality Disorder. Building on personal and professional experience this course will include some practical tools for working with people especially some dialectical behavioural therapy skills.
